Click Fraud and Invalid Traffic: Evaluate Acquisition Quality
Connect the click to what happens next.

What to understand
Invalid or manipulated traffic can inflate acquisition metrics while producing little genuine customer value. Click counts alone cannot explain whether a campaign is attracting interested people, automated activity or another low-quality source. Evaluation needs to follow the traffic through the relevant conversion journey.
Compare source and session evidence
Review repeated patterns, device environment and network context by source. A privacy tool or proxy flag is not proof that a visit is fake. Compare those observations with engagement and conversion evidence rather than excluding whole populations on one classification.
Signals to review together
Artificial traffic can consume advertising budgets and distort the data used to decide where the next dollar goes.
- Traffic Patterns: Compare timing and repetition
- Device Context: Assess signs of automation
- Network Context: Review suspicious infrastructure
- Outcome Quality: Connect clicks with real engagement
Use downstream outcomes
Assess whether traffic reaches meaningful actions and whether reported conversions hold up to further validation. Align marketing and fraud teams on the difference between low intent and confirmed manipulation. Test whether additional signals improve spend decisions without discarding legitimate audiences.
Keep legitimate activity in view
Low conversion alone does not prove click fraud.
