Mobile Install Fraud: Look Beyond the Install Count
Measure whether acquisition becomes credible use.

What to understand
A recorded installation is an acquisition event. It does not by itself establish that a genuine new customer intends to use the product. Install-fraud review connects attribution and device evidence with the behavior that follows, while recognizing that legitimate users can abandon an app quickly.
Review the attribution sequence
Compare reported installs with the surrounding campaign events and expected timing. Look for recurring device patterns or unusual repetition. Understand what the attribution and detection systems can actually observe before treating an inconsistency as a confirmed finding.
Signals to review together
Artificial installations and automated app activity can distort acquisition reporting and incentive payments.
- Install Patterns: Compare timing and concentration
- Device Evidence: Review emulator and reuse signals
- Post-Install Activity: Look for meaningful engagement
- Source Comparison: Check quality by acquisition source
Connect installs to useful outcomes
Review activation, meaningful use and quality by source. Separate measurement errors and poor targeting from intentional manipulation. Evaluate new signals using a representative mix of genuine acquisition, uncertain cases and confirmed abuse where available.
Keep legitimate activity in view
Testing devices and low-engagement users are not automatically fraudulent.
