Gaming Abuse: Match Signals to Player Harm
Define the harmful behavior before choosing a signal.

What to understand
Gaming platforms face different kinds of abuse across account access, promotions, virtual value and player interaction. A generic fraud label can obscure which behavior needs intervention. Teams should identify the workflow, the affected players and the evidence that would support a proportionate decision.
Separate the abuse questions
Account takeover, repeated incentive claims and gameplay misconduct require different evidence. Device and network context may support account or promotion review, but they do not establish every form of cheating. Use each signal for the question it can meaningfully answer.
Signals to review together
Bot accounts, coordinated profiles, and incentive abuse can overlap, but each creates a different problem for a game team.
- Account Patterns: Review creation and reuse
- Device Context: Assess shared environments
- Behavior: Compare activity with normal play
- Incentive Use: Review rewards and bonus claims
Protect genuine players
Shared devices, household connections and unusual hours can be normal. Compare activity with the player journey and program rules, and provide a review path for uncertain cases. Measure how changes affect legitimate access as well as suspected abuse.
Keep legitimate activity in view
Shared devices and highly skilled players should not be confused with abuse.
