Subscription Fraud and Account-Abuse Guidance

Protect access throughout the subscription journey.

Fraud guidance for your workflow

Subscription businesses need to assess trial eligibility, paid access, account recovery and suspicious resale patterns. Those questions require more than a count of active accounts. IFD helps identify relevant signals and evaluation options for the point where access is being misused.

Connect the subscription lifecycle

Compare trial entry, conversion, device changes and sensitive account edits. Review activity against the service's actual eligibility and access terms, including legitimate household or business use.

Four areas to connect

Subscription businesses need to understand how introductory access, identity changes, and account history fit together.

  • Offer Eligibility: Define the intended benefit
  • Account History: Review repeated introductory access
  • Contact Changes: Assess relevant identifier reuse
  • Customer Path: Keep legitimate evaluation simple

Distinguish access abuse from churn

Cancellation, low engagement and repeated support contacts are not automatically fraud. Evaluate whether the proposed data improves a defined access decision and preserves a fair resolution path.

Keep the customer context

Shared households and changed email addresses can be legitimate.

Subscription abuse and account resale

Unauthorized resale can involve compromised accounts or access obtained outside the service's terms. Compare access changes, recovery events and subscription activity with the permitted use of the service. Shared access alone is not conclusive. Route suspected account compromise through the appropriate protection and customer-resolution process.
